Pre Op Appointment with Dr Lehocky

Rachel had a pre op appointment this afternoon with Dr Lehocky. It was more for our benefit as we had questions and needed to sign a surgery consent. But upon his seeing her, he thought her cleft lip didn't seem as wide, and that perhaps taping her lip the past couple of weeks has been successful! He also said that because of that, there is a possibility that he might be able to do the complete lip repair on the 26th and not just a lip adhesion. He won't know for sure until he gets in there and gets going. Needless to say, we're gonna keep taping her lip in hopes of it continuing to be successful!

With that said, we'd sure appreciate prayers for her surgery date...January 26th. Also that once Dr Lehocky gets going, he'd be able to do the complete lip repair rather than just the adhesion. Thank you! Thank you to all of you who check this page regularly and are so committed to keeping up and following Rachel on this journey.

I know this is later than the surgery, but I just wanted to let you know that I, too, had a special baby 24 years ago. She was born with a unilateral cleft of the lip and a bilateral cleft of the palate. She had 2 surgeries by the time she was 15 months old. For one reason or another, she didn't have the last surgery, but goes for a consultation on her 24th birthday. She has brought my husband and I such joy. I remember when I was in the hospital with her, I had a visitor who was sent from my pediatritian's office who had a child with a cleft palate. She told me to take lots of pictures and that these special children have a spark. I'm sure you have seen it. These pictures now are something that my daughter treasures.
One thing that helped in HER journey through all of this is a book I found called "Rosie, the Imperfect Angel." I don't know what the author is offhand but when Becky started asking questions why she was "different" and she talked "funny", this helped her. Just know that kids can be cruel and make fun.
